Sadio Mane Wins 2022 African Player of the Year. Bayern Munich’s Senegalese star Sadio Mane has been selected as the 2022 African Footballer of the Year. The African Footballer of the Year award was presented at a ceremony held by the African Confederation in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday (July 21).
Sadio Mane is the sixth player in history to win the African Player of the Year award more than once. The Senegalese forward received such good news within 24 hours of his debut for Bayern. Mane won the award ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea goalkeeper and team-mate Eduard Mendy.
Last season was great. Won two of a possible four titles. In addition to winning the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, Liverpool finished second in the league. And Mane’s team lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Meanwhile, Mane’s former club mate Salah has won two titles while Mane has won three. Like Salah, Mane has won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup; And Mane also won the African Cup of Nations. Mane-Mendy beat Salah’s team in the Nations Cup final to win the title.
However, winning the Nations Cup was slightly ahead of Salah and Mendy in the top three. A part from winning the Africa Cup of Nations, Mane also scored 3 goals in the tournament. Mane became the sixth player to win the African Player of the Year award twice. The rest are Mohamed Salah, Didier Drogba, Roger Milla, Nwanko Kanu and El Hadji Diouf.
George Uah and Abedi Pele have both won the Player of the Year award three times. However, Samuel Eto’o and Yaya Toure have won the award a maximum of four times.
