Before the FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda, it was announced that there will be 104 matches instead of 64 matches in the next World Cup. And the number of teams will be 48. These 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups. Where there will be 4 teams in each group.

In the 2026 World Cup, the top two teams from 12 groups will advance to the next round or the second phase. 8 more teams will join these 24 teams. Among the 12 groups, these 8 teams will be taken from those who will be ahead in points except for the champions and runners-up.
The second phase will start with 32 teams. From there 16 teams will play in the third phase. The quarter finals will start with 8 teams from this phase. Then the semi-final and final matches will be held. The 23rd season is reported to be completed in 39 days (total 56 days). Earlier 32 days were required.
Meanwhile, the 23rd edition will be the second joint event in the history of the World Cup. Earlier, the 2002 World Cup was jointly hosted by Japan and South Korea. It was the first World Cup held in the Asian continent.

Qatar World Cup will be held in November-December, but the World Cup to be held in USA, Canada and Mexico will be held in June-July. The final match of the World Cup will be held in the United States on July 19. The 22nd edition was held outside the normal time, mainly due to the hot weather in Qatar.
