Joyce says that if he wins the interim WBO belt tonight, he can force champion Oleksandr Usyk to fight him or he will be promoted to the new champion.
However, Usyk has already made it clear that the only fights he wants before retirement are Tyson Fury, Canelo Alvarez, a fighter named later for his last fight before he hangs up the gloves.
“I didn’t really know what to say to him because he’s a nice guy, but this is serious stuff. We don’t tickle each other. Hitting each other with little gloves and tight wraps,” Joe Joyce told iFL TV about his fight against Joseph Parker tonight.
“I don’t really care. It’s about who wins on Saturday night, and that’s me, then it doesn’t matter what people say. I’m getting results,” Joyce said when told Team Parker says it’s “blunt fighter”.
“More weapons in the arsenal and technically cleaning up a few things,” Joyce said of the improvements coach Ismael Salas has made to his game.

“Yeah, I’m trying to knock him down and knock him down and hurt him. It’s a sport, but it’s a brutal sport and I want to win by any means possible. He will try to hurt me too. That’s the name of the game.
“Parker has his speed and quickness. It is slightly shorter. I may be a little slow, but I throw more punches. I have underrated skills and footwork. Obviously, timing trumps speed, and I have timing.
“This is interim for the WBO, so that means if Usyk doesn’t want to fight me, I will be promoted to the WBO once I beat Parker. So that’s pretty good.
“I think it’s just a safety net,” Joyce said of having a rematch clause for his fight against Parker. “It’s not something I asked for. It’s my team’s idea at this level because we didn’t have to take this fight because it’s a great fight for the fans.
“It’s all pretty until the bell rings and I go at him and punch him,” Joyce said when told that Tyson Fury says he’s very friendly but sees Parker winning the decision, Joyce said.
