Le Gret apologized in an interview with AFP after the fierce criticism. He said that his speech did not accurately reflect his thoughts on Zidane. At the same time, he called his comment ‘clumsy’ and claimed the matter as a ‘misunderstanding’.
Gret said, ‘I apologize for those comments. It didn’t reflect my thoughts properly, nor did my assessment of what he was like as a player and a coach.’
